Carrot, Orange, Ginger and Apple Juice

Okay ladies and gents. I know juicing has some people thinking, well, yuk.

On the contrary, juicing isn’t just for hippies and raw foodists. It’s an essential part of healthy living. The problem is people think juices are gross or take too much time to make. If you are reading this blog post, I highly recommend reading my post on the Vitamix. You can find it in my Favourite Things section.

If you are truly ready to start a healthy lifestyle, you will listen to me and follow three basic rules:
Shop local and fresh : local is always better because you are getting the freshest pick and helping local farmers.
Organize yourself and get the family involved: as soon as you get home, start cleaning and peeling your produce and store in green bags. That way your produce is ready to be blended at a moment’s notice and there aren’t any excuses.
Use a high quality blender, like the Vitamix because it makes all the difference.

That being said, my first juice post wasn’t picked at random. I chose a juice I know everyone will love.
No, it isn’t green. Calm down….
That will come soon when I have converted you to the benefits of healthy living and you are more open to trying new things….

Here is my favourite recipe for a Carrot, Orange, Ginger and Apple Juice:
(Adapted from Vitamix recipe)

I drink this in the morning to give me energy, especially in the winter months. It is loaded with Vitamin C to help ward off the flu and viruses.

1/2 c. filtered water
1 orange, peeled and quartered
1 slice of fresh ginger, peeled
1/2 apple, seeded and halved
1/2 inch slice of pineapple, core included
1 medium carrot, halved or about 1/3 chopped
1 c. ice cubes

  1. Put all the ingredients into the Vitamix, or another blender, and close the lid.
  2. Turn setting to Variable 1 if using a Vitamix, or the lowest setting on any other blender.
  3. Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10, if using a Vitamix, on high for any other blender.
  4. If using a Vitamix, then hit the High button and blend for 2 seconds. If using another blender, blend for 1 minute until smooth.
  5. Serve immediately.
