Basic Quinoa

So here I am trying to get inspired for new posts when I get a message from a gorgeous girl, whom I never met, but I instantly liked. She made me realize that sometimes, it’s the basics that stump us.

How true is that?!

I remember when I first got married, I could make the most succulent roast, yet I almost always burned the rice. Rice! I literally had to learn how to boil rice properly.

So for all those of you who are too embarrassed to admit it, this is how you make a basic quinoa.

If you live under a rock and haven’t heard of quinoa let alone tried it, it is a complete protein containing all eight essential amino acids. Keep in mind that it is high in protein, about 6 grams worth usually per portion, but it is also high in carbs ( about 27grams per serving), so if you are trying to lose weight, I recommend not over doing it.

  • This recipe serves 4 people

1 c. quinoa (white one)

1/2 tsp. salt

Rinse quinoa in a fine sieve until water runs clear, drain and transfer to a medium pot. Yes, you must wash quinoa!

Add 2 cups water and salt and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to medium low and simmer until water is absorbed, 15 to 20 minutes.

Set aside off the heat for 5 minutes; uncover and fluff with a fork.

Now that you know how to make basic quinoa, add your favourite chopped fruits and veggies, drizzle with cold-pressed olive oil, add some sea salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon and now you are cooking healthy!
